This week, one of our former students left a comment in the Facebook group for students studying in Youth Work and Community Services courses that we thought warranted sharing with the wider Churchill community. Jayne Wallace completed a CHC50413 Diploma of Youth Work and has had a really positive response from employers. She also had a few words of encouragement and advice for students who are still studying.

Here’s what she had to say:

CHC50413 Diploma of Youth Work
Jayne Wallace

‘Just wanted to put something positive out there! I completed my Diploma of Youth Work in December and since then I have had six job offers! I have put myself and my qualification out there and hassled organisations…..Child Protection, DHHS, Residential units and more. I already had a full-time job in a different field but since completing my Diploma and getting work straight away, my salary has doubled. At one stage I had 3 different organisations trying to outbid each other to employ me. There are so many jobs out there, and some organisations are now asking for non-qualified entry level youth workers. You will be paid doing the job you want and get experience to help you with your studies.

Churchill Education gave me the great training, support and advice that has enabled me to work as a Youth Worker. I too had a few mentors along the way, but it was my responsibility to keep up with my studies and go to another question while waiting for a response from my mentor.

This Facebook page was great for contacting Mentors and asking other students for advice. It can be very frustrating when you are STUCK on a question or project, sometimes the feeling of disappointment makes you feel like giving up…well, don’t! Keep going…put the questions out there to each other, help each other, nag and keep nagging. The mentors really are trying their best. Good luck and stay positive. Trust me, it’s worth it.’

Thanks for sharing your journey with us Jayne, and we’re so pleased you’ve had such positive outcomes from your qualification. All the best for your future career!

  1. Awww… Jayne! It was a pleasure being one of your mentors and was very glad to be there when you crossed the finish line! You worked hard, asked questions and made the time to study around work and family..with no excuses! You truly deserve all of the rewards that follow your hard work. Glad to see you are doing well!
