What is VET in Schools?

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) is a Queensland Government funding program which focuses on delivering Certificate I and II level qualifications to secondary school students in years 10 – 12 with the aim to equip young people with the skills and knowledge required for specific industries.

Eligible students can undertake VETiS funded qualifications as part of their school studies when delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) such as Churchill Education. Alternatively, students can undertake a Certificate III or higher level qualification through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT). Churchill Education can also facilitate these.

VET in Schools Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to any Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who:

  • is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students); and
  • is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.

Prospective students must not have or be enrolled in a certificate III level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training).

Get Set 4 Work

Churchill Education’s VETiS courses include an employment readiness program to prepare students for workforce participation, covering subjects such as interview skills and resume development and writing skills.

Work Placement

Students enrolled in SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality must complete work placement to complete this qualification. This course involves 12 work shifts in the field of hospitality. For students who already hold a job in hospitality, you can use your existing work commitments to fulfill your course vocational placement. For students who do not have a job in hospitality, our Vocational Placement Officer can offer you assistance in finding work placement.

Why choose Churchill Education?

We’re proud of the reputation we’ve developed as a provider of high-calibre training in qualifications across the spectrum, from Hospitality to Outdoor Education and lots more in between.

We’ve worked pretty hard to earn this reputation, and we’re not letting go of it!

So, we keep our standards high. We evolve, and we inspire students to evolve, too.

At Churchill Education, we do things differently – for a reason. We recruit trainers with life and industry experience who are dedicated not just to teaching, but to creating innovative learning experiences for their students.

We believe that every learner deserves the opportunity to succeed, and that it’s our job to facilitate the success of every learner and support them all the way to the finish line. Sometimes this means thinking outside the box. Sometimes it means scrapping the box and building a new one, from the ground up.

If this sounds good to you and you’re interested in running a VETiS program at your school, we’d love to help.
