What is VET in Schools?

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) is a Queensland Government funding program which focuses on delivering Certificate I and II level qualifications to secondary school students in years 10 – 12 with the aim to equip young people with the skills and knowledge required for specific industries.

Eligible students can undertake VETiS funded qualifications as part of their school studies when delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) such as Churchill Education.

VET in Schools Eligibility Criteria

VETiS qualifications can be undertaken by students in years 10-12. VETiS studies funded by the Queensland VET investment budget are fee-free for students. The VET investment budget provides funding for students to complete one VETiS qualification listed on the Queensland Training Subsidies List while at school.

To access independent advice or information and a point of contact within DET if needed, please refer

Get Set 4 Work

Growing up with digital technology at their fingertips, secondary school students can be pretty adept at navigating the online world. But, when it comes to job applications on paper and interviews in person, there’s a whole other skill set they’ll need.

This work readiness program aims to equip students with those practical skills, preparing them to apply for jobs and enter the workforce. From understanding how to present themselves on paper to how to conduct themselves in an interview over the phone or in person, topics covered include:

  • Cleaning up your digital footprint
    – what would a potential employer think of you based on your social media profile?
  • Writing a resume and cover letters (one short and one long)
    – without abbreviated texting language or emoticons
  • Interview role plays
    – including body language (eye contact, a smile, a good handshake and clear speech)
    – answering typical interview questions.

To ensure that all students have the opportunity to build these skills, the Get Set 4 Work Program is included in all VEtiS courses offered through Churchill Education.

Work Placement

Students enrolled in SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality must complete work placement to complete this qualification. This course involves 12 work shifts in the field of hospitality. For students who already hold a job in hospitality, you can use your existing work commitments to fulfill your course vocational placement. For students who do not have a job in hospitality, our Vocational Placement Officer can offer you assistance in finding work placement.

Why choose Churchill Education?

Churchill Education is a family-owned registered training organisation that has been around for over ten years now, and we like to think we’ve gotten pretty good at what we do in that time. That doesn’t mean that we ever stop learning and growing, though.

We ask for feedback, we take it on, then we get better. The results of this are the programs we’re offering to you in 2018.

From what they’ve told us, students appreciate this approach – 99.1% of students surveyed said they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the training they were offered by Churchill in 2017 VETiS courses.i

We have trainers with extensive life and industry experience who are dedicated not just to teaching, but to creating innovative learning opportunities for all students. In 2017 VETiS courses, 84.5% of the students surveyed participated in the full program.ii
