Recognition of Prior Learning (otherwise known as Skills Recognition) is a complex undertaking. But with our longstanding experience in RPL for Defence Personnel, Churchill Education have streamlined everything to make it as easy as possible for you. So, what does this actually mean?
What it means is that we do all the leg work. We guide you about what we need in order to get the best result for you. The last thing you want when you are trying to transition from the Army, Navy or Air Forces is to have to constantly chase an RTO about your RPL application. You’re not just another number at Churchill, you will get personal attention throughout the whole process.
Here is a look at that process:
- A member of our Specialised Defence RPL Assessment team at Churchill will conduct a Free Qualification Appraisal. All you need to provide is a payslip, accommodations and promotions notes. Personnel who are currently transitioning or those who have left in the last five years are eligible for RPL assessment based on Defence experience. You may have done other work that you can be assessed on in the interim.
- We will send you back a report within 48 hours, detailing what qualifications you are eligible for, and others you can obtain with further training. We operate on a ‘best case scenario’ basis – we will get you as much as we possibly can in terms of qualifications. This is all cost-free and obligation-free.
- If you choose to go ahead with receiving your nationally recognised qualifications from Churchill Education, we will complete the process. Other providers may get you to do this part yourself, mapping your skills and experience across to the relevant qualifications or components within them. This can be complicated and time-consuming, and you may not know how to complete it. We will ask specific questions about your skills and experience, tell you exactly which documents you need to provide, then let you sit back while we take care of it.
- You will receive your qualifications.
Number 2: We have subject matter experts
We know Defence, we know RPL, we know compliance (we are monitored by ASQA – Australian Skills Quality Authority and have comprehensive standards to adhere to), so it’s just a matter of getting to know you. If we get to know your specific situation then we can advocate for you to get the best result.
Trying to complete the RPL process yourself is a mammoth task and is not recommended as you may miss out on quals you are entitled to. As an experienced Registered Training Organisation, Churchill have been completing Recognition of Prior Learning for Defence Forces personnel for over 10 years. This means we already have a pretty good idea of the quals you may be awarded with your rank and experience, so it’s just a matter of finding out the specifics of your situation or extra training/experience that may assist in delivering the best case scenario for you.
Our assessors are not just experienced in the RPL process, but some are ex-Defence personnel themselves. That means that they have an in-depth understanding of Defence terminology, skills and knowledge and ranks.
We also have staff on our team from various industries relating to Defence, such as Logistics, Security and Risk Management and Government, so we can fully understand the ins and outs of what you may have done through your Defence career.
Number 3: Our RPL process stands up to scrutiny
Churchill Education prides themselves on a transparent and up-front approach to the RPL process. We are here to guide you to receive the highest qualification you can, not to sell you on more training. If, despite our best efforts, we think you will need to do some further study to attain a qualification, we will be up-front about that and give you flexible options.
One of the key elements that makes our RPL process great is the report that our Defence RPL Assessment team provides you after the Free Qualification Appraisal. This report will outline what qualifications you could be eligible for (provided you have the requisite evidence) and which qualifications you could be eligible for with a little more training. Having this information at your fingertips allows you to make informed decisions about your career. We will not promise you qualifications that you are likely to be ineligible for.
