Many of our graduates complete their qualification without studying – at least not in the classroom!
- I don’t know how to study.
- I really struggled at school.
- I’m not clever enough for a qualification.
- Not for people like me.
We’ve lost count of the amount of times we have heard these or similar comments from potential graduates. People who, because they didn’t enjoy or follow a pathway of ‘formal education’ into their career, think that they haven’t the same skills as those who did.
For us, education is an adventure, a celebration of all that you can do, rather than a stuffy classroom with confusing textbooks and timed exams.
So, we prefer not to bother with that.
We ask you what you do. What you get up to on a day to day basis in your job. What you do well? What you enjoy. What you loved in previous jobs? What makes you proud. Doesn’t matter how or why you can do these things, just simply that you have learnt along the way, to do them. Can you show us? Give us some examples for us to see how good you actually are.
This is the basis for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
And in many, many cases, that’s it. Just that. Those skills that have crept up on you. Those experiences and situations you have dealt with in the past and have walked away with a bit more wisdom.
From these, you may achieve a formal, nationally recognised qualification. There is no studying because you have already done it. We simply translate a lifetime of experience into an actual qualification that will impress employers, who thought you were useless at learning. We match up your skills to the confusing, academic paperwork. You walk away with the same qualification, the same kudos as those who learnt the same skills in a classroom.
RPL is simply about rewarding you for what you can already do.
And of course it’s not just about feeling great about yourself. It’s a real, solid, offical qualification. One that you can put on your resume, bring to your annual review at work and prove to everyone that you are utterly capable in a set of skills.
And you had earned it all along. That’s pretty clever in our eyes.
