Question: Do you have any Recognition of Prior Learning case studies?
Answer: We are lucky enough to have much Recognition of Prior Learning students who have been willing to share their experience with others. Periodically, we will be sharing these experiences here on our blog. First up, here’s Neil M’s story. Neil explains how his Advanced Diploma, gained through Recognition of Prior Learning, gained him the promotion that he wanted.
Neil M shares his Recognition of Prior Learning experience with Churchill Education.
Hello, Neil speaking.
Q: Hi Neil, it’s Churchill Education.
Oh yeah, how you going?
Q: Good, how are you doing?
Not too bad.
Q: I just wanted to touch base with you just to find out how you found the experience with Churchill Education and why you came to us?
Oh look, well, first up you guys were recommended by another work colleague of mine. He’s since moved onto another job, and it was more along that OH&S qualifications and he recommended you.
Q: That’s right you got your Advanced Diploma, didn’t you?
Yeah, that’s right. He recommended you guys and I thought okay. So when the time came I approached you guys through the usual channels, the email thing or whatever, and then John – is it John?
Q: John Brayshaw.
Yeah, John Brayshaw got back to me. That’s how it started, and then of course I started the process and dealt with John and got all the paperwork through and all the requirements and all the evidence.
Q: How did you find the process of recognition of prior learning (RPL) experience?
I’m familiar with that sort of thing anyway. I’ve done a lot of that over my career, you know, being in the police and also security-related stuff as well. I think Recognition of Prior Learning is a good thing.
Q: It is a very good thing. You work so hard to get that experience, and then not have the qualifications, it’s ridiculous.
You do. You have a lot of knowledge and experience and if you can actually put that to good use by either a diploma or something like that it just, then yeah, it cements it all in concrete, you know?
Q: Yeah. And has that helped you or is it going to assist you in moving through your career?
Well, it has already now because essentially I’ve actually been made up to Transport & Safety Manager.
Q: Congratulations, that’s wonderful.
Part of my portfolio now where I am. So look, overall I found John and just all the team there great to deal with, all the emails always pleasant and response times were quick. So no, it’s all good.
Q: Oh, I think that’s something that Churchill really tries hard to do, to make that experience lasting and a positive thing.
Yeah.
Q: And you walk away feeling like you deserve those qualifications because you’ve worked hard for them. And you really should pat yourself on the back, because you do deserve congratulations on that, Neil.
