When we started Churchill Education back in 2006, it wasn’t very common to see people obtain the Advanced Diploma of Government through Recognition of Prior Learning. In the last 5 years, we have seen a real shift in Departments looking at these qualifications as a minimum benchmark for their teams.
In some teams, holding the Advanced Diploma of Government is also linked to mandatory pay increases.
After a review was completed in 2022 of all Australia’s Public Sector Package qualifications, the latest and current version of this qualification can be recognised by the code PSP60122.
The earlier qualification was PSP60116 Advanced Diploma of Government. Whilst the spirit of the earlier qualification aligned with the latest version, there have been some changes made to ensure that when you graduate with PSP60122 Advanced Diploma of Government, you are possessing the range of skills and knowledge that modern workplaces demand.
PSP60122 Advanced Diploma of Government is a qualification that reflects the skills and knowledge required to perform effectively as public service employee. This is relevant to public servants from Commonwealth, State and Local governments.
When it comes to obtaining Recognition of Prior Learning in PSP60122 Advanced Diploma of Government, the starting point is that you have competencies in public sector work which is autonomous and non-routine.
WHAT DOES IT COMPRISE OF
There are no entry requirements for the Advanced Diploma of Government.
A total of 15 units of competency must be completed in Advanced Diploma of Government. The units of competency required are:
7 core units; plus
8 elective units, consisting of:
• 1 unit from Group A
• 5 units from Group B to E
• 2 units from Groups B to E
Any combination of units that meets the packaging rules above can be utilised in awarding the Advanced Diploma of Government. Where appropriate, electives can be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialisation; such as Advanced Diploma of Government (Investigations) or Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection).
Core units are mandatory for every student completing Advanced Diploma of Government. When you look at the core units you can see that these key competencies are valued in government sector functions across the country:
• Maintaining and enhancing confidence in the public service
• Applying relevant government systems
• Upholding and supporting inclusive workplace practices
• Preparing high-level written communication
• Establishing and maintaining strategic networks
• Managing compliance in accordance with legislation affecting the public sector
• Managing and implanting policies
Once the core units have been addressed, the 8 elective units balance specialist public sector skills and transferable skills.
For example, a specialist government sector skill can be the ability to undertake enterprise risk management.
For example, a transferable skill that is valued outside of the public service is your ability to provide management of projects.
The Advanced Diploma of Government is available as a generalist qualification and also as specialisations.
The generalist qualification reflects work in small or regional organisations where your responsibilities have been diverse, rather than within a narrow specialisation.
Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspections)
The workplace inspections specialisation is for those who have been responsible for the investigation and enforcement requirements in any of the following areas: workplace relations, work health and safety, workers’ compensation or injury management.
Advanced Diploma of Government (Investigations)
The investigations specialisation is for those who have been primarily responsible for managing investigations within a public sector role.

The RPL process begins with a conversation with one of our Skills Recognition Advisors.
This is cost-free and obligation-free.
Step 2. You tell us the qualifications you want and provide evidence
You can make an informed decision about which qualifications are best for you and your career. Once this is confirmed, we can complete the process.
Step 3. You receive nationally recognised qualifications!
Congratulations! Your experience has been validated and translated into nationally recognised qualifications.
Nationally Recognised Qualifications
Are RPL qualifications nationally recognised? Yes.
Churchill Education is a registered training organisation, RTO:31430. This means that we are regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the Australian Government regulatory body for the VET sector.
The qualifications that we offer are nationally recognised, and issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Accordingly, they’re exactly the same as those granted by other educational institutions such as TAFE..
